THE PIECES

This exceptional chess set from Italama of Italy showcases remarkable craftsmanship. The intricate detailing of the historical figures, notably the Arab king's body armor and turban, exudes strength and luxury. The queen's regal robe and crown display impeccable precision. Complementing the set are handsomely attired bishop and pawn pieces, complete with an Arab-inspired rook castle. A standout piece is the Arab knight, depicted on a camel rather than the traditional horse, adding an element of uniqueness to this exquisite set.

The Roman monarch exudes regal elegance, adorned in intricate armor and a majestic cloak, while his exquisite queen radiates in a flowing gown. Representing the bishop, a centurion-like figure sits atop a detailed horse, while the knight charges into battle. The rook stands tall as a symbol of Romanesque architecture, with pawns resembling chain-mail clad soldiers. Complete with a stunning 15.75 inch walnut and maple board from Spain, our Romans vs Arabs Themed Chess set offers a luxurious choice for those seeking a one-of-a-kind gift.

THE HISTORY

During the reigns of the Rashidun and Umayyad caliphs, the Arab-Byzantine wars erupted as a result of the movement of Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula into Byzantium's southern colonies in the 7th century AD. Spanning over four centuries, these conflicts saw the Muslims aggressively attack Asia Minor, twice threatening to take over Constantinople, and ultimately conquering Byzantium's Exarchate of Africa. Despite a failed attempt to besiege Constantinople in 718, tensions persisted until the 10th century, eventually leading to the establishment of embassies and periods of truce between the two groups.
