Product Quality Standard

For nearly two decades we have worked directly with some of the world’s most skilled manufacturers of chess boards and chess pieces including our long-standing partners in India, alongside specialist workshops in Spain, Poland and the UK.

By sourcing from these respected workshops, we can offer a collection that brings together the best of each tradition—reliable Indian hand-turning, precise European board production and dependable UK standards—ensuring authenticity, consistency and long-lasting quality in every set.

Product Photography

All of the photos on our website are of our own stock, taken in our in-house photographic studio using professional equipment.

If we resupply a product from a new maker, a new set of photographs is taken so you always see the exact product you’re ordering.

Do our sets look as good as the photos?

Customers often ask if the products really are as good in real life as they look in the photos.

Our product images are unedited, raw photographs captured by our in-house staff, with only background removal applied.

You can be confident that what you see is what you will get. We work only with suppliers who meet our high standards of quality.

European

At the same time, our European makers contribute their own strengths:

  • Spanish expertise in high-grade veneer boards.
  • Polish tradition of solid-wood board making.
  • British production of Isle of Lewis chess pieces.

Indian

India remains the global centre of hand-turned wooden chess pieces.

Master woodturners and carvers have refined their techniques over generations.

Regions such as Amritsar and Moradabad set the benchmark for wooden chess craftsmanship worldwide.
