The Leningrad series comprises sets of quality, large chessmen available in ebonised boxwood, anjan and here we have the acacia version. The dark pieces in this set are crafted from a beautifully grained wood that is slightly lighter than Golden rosewood (sheesham). Acacia is a hugely versatile shrub as its seeds are often used for food and a range of other products.
The feathery shoots are used in soups, curries, omelettes etc in places like Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Some species of Acacia yield a gum which when processed, is found in some soft drinks and confections. This is due to the high sugar content. The ancient Egyptians associated the tree with the tree of life and also used acacia gum in paints.
The Leningrad Series Chessmen have become one of the most popular and best sellers on the Regency Chess website due to their quality of finish and weight. ‘The solid feel in hand' is, in fact, a compliment we hear regularly from customers. Not only that, the carving on the Leningrad chessmen is slightly more ornate, especially on the knights. With their height and detail, all the pieces look regal and elegant. These large pieces are perfectly weighted and naturally polished with plush flocked bases in green. This set of chess men includes 4 queens.
They are great for home and tournament use alike and look great on this 50.04 cm quality chess board produced by prestigious chess board maker Rechapados Ferrer S.A. of Spain. Using high grade Walnut and Maple veneers, this board's construction utilised modern fabrication techniques has produced a product with simple lines and very critical detailing. The Walnut grain of the playing squares is magnificent and the board base is equally well finished using high grade veneer. Perfect for showcasing your Leningrad Chess Men.
