THE PIECES

Experience the beauty and detail of these historical chess pieces! The French and British sides are magnificently adorned in navy blue and red uniforms, led by the iconic figures of Bonaparte and Wellington, accompanied by their respective ladies, Josephine and Catherine. The bishops are dashing uniformed officers, while the knights are intricately crafted mounted soldiers. The pawns are fierce infantry armed with firearms, but it's the rooks that truly stand out in this set, represented by cannons with the country's flags flying proudly above. We've paired these exquisite pieces with a stunning Spanish board to bring you The Battle of Waterloo Themed Chess Set. A must-have for any chess enthusiast, or the perfect gift for a loved one.

THE HISTORY

On June 18th, 1815, history was made at Waterloo, where the combined forces of the Duke of Wellington and Prince of Wahlstatt (Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher) triumphed over Napoleon Bonaparte's French army. This battle, as described by Wellington, was the "nearest run thing you ever saw in your life", ultimately leading to the end of Bonaparte's rule and his Hundred Days return from exile. Today, a monument stands at the site of the battlefield, marked by a large statue of a lion, built with soil taken from the original location. Despite its transformation, the significance of this historic event remains preserved and continues to inspire awe and admiration.
