Highly detailed and superbly finished, the Reproduction Staunton Ebony Chessmen 1869 Model boasts an imposing 10.2cm king, including his royal finial.

Supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world's finest chessmen, these pieces have been turned from solid wood and then painstakingly carved with exquisite detailing.

The knights and bishops are particularly beautiful and, as reproduction pieces, they also bear the original marks of the king's crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook. Placed on the king's flank, this was a practical innovation to identify their position on the king’s side of the board, as, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the ‘queen's knight, or the ‘king’s rook’.

Please note that these chessmen now come with red markings on both sides, rather than silver and red.
