The Regency Chess Company Reviews:
Based on Lewis Carroll’s iconic characters from ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking Glass’, these beautiful cream and cardinal red chess pieces are intricately cast in the UK from fine, stone-crushed resin.
The timeless stories were written to entertain and amuse the young children of the Liddell family of Christ Church, Oxford, where Carroll was a lecturer and close family friend. The Dean of Christ Church’s eldest daughter, Alice Liddell, was the inspiration for Carroll’s heroine. When Lorina Liddell, the children’s mother, saw them so captivated by Carroll’s stories, she persuaded him to have them published. The first Alice tale was published in 1865 and has continued to delight people of all ages to this day.
The main characters from these beloved tales are wonderfully brought to life in these pieces, which are inspired by John Tenniel’s original Alice illustrations.
