Between July 11 and September 1, 1972, the legendary World Chess Championship took place between defending champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union and challenger Bobby Fischer of the United States.

It took place in the Laugardalshöll arena in Reykjavík, Iceland. Two chess sets were used over the course of this tournament, which is now known as the Match of the Century.
